House shifting – important things to do before the movers arrive!!

Hiring a last minute moving company is very practical and time saving. However, you cannot expect a moving company to do everything for you. There are certain duties that you, as a house owner, should perform before the movers arrive. This will not only make things easier and much faster, but also reduce your moving expenses significantly.

Clean up the house: You may have been busy with packing or arranging the things for the last few days in preparation for the shift. Obviously, every nook and corner of your house would have become messy in the process. Therefore, find out some time to clean up your house a bit so that the new occupants will find it much helpful. Of course, you would not be expecting a dirty or dusty house when you get to the new place.

Keep all things for moving at one place: You are not taking everything in the old house to the new place. You would have to figure out the things to be moved and exclude those you don’t need to take along. Once you have it sorted, gather the things to move at one place. This will help the last minute movers to pack them up easily. Remember that most of the last minute moving services charge customers on hourly basis. By making the works easier for them, you can actually reduce the actual duration of their work time and thereby reduce the costs.

Say good bye to the neighbors: It is a good idea to bid farewell to your friends and neighbors. However, don’t plan to do it on the same day you are shifting. Do it one or two days ahead, as you won’t get enough time to do anything on the day of moving. Moreover, chances are that you will miss out important people.

Take a photograph of the items to be moved: If you are hiring a recognized moving company, you can claim for any damages caused during the time of shifting. Nevertheless, some companies would argue that they didn’t break or cause damage to your things. This can trigger great disputes to avoid any such disputes, take a photograph of all the things that are being moved. You can do it either before the movers come in or in their presence. This way, you can show your movers how your things were prior being moved in case they raise any disputes after any accidental damages.

Keep some refreshments ready: Packing up household stuffs and loading them can be quite tiring and challenging. Be kind enough to provide the staff from the same day moving company with some refreshments – may be some drinks and snacks. Besides, you will need that too.
